4 Great Museums in Gatlinburg
By Bob Foster of American Patriot Getaways
The Smoky Mountains running along the Tennessee-North Carolina border are undoubtedly a great place to find peace. With over eight hundred miles of carved trails and a rich wildlife of bears, deer, elk, and hundreds of species of birds, who wouldn’t find enjoyment in such adventure? Though, for some of us there comes a time when we need a little peace from peace. A visit to the museums of Gatlinburg can provide some spicy entertainment during a mountain vacation. There are four quirky, must see museums in town; each one offers something unique. Have you ever watched a movie that featured a beautiful automobile and you found yourself dreaming about what it would be like to be the owner? Chances are that car is on display at the Hollywood Star Cars Museum. Talk about American muscle! This museum is the honored host to the raw 1969 Dodge Charger from the film “The Dukes of Hazzard”. Plus, don’t forget about the mean 1967 Mustang, Shelby GT 500 from “Gone in Sixty Seconds”. As far as cars that you probably couldn’t imagine yourself driving, the museum includes the DeLorean from “Back to the Future”, the Bat Mobile from “Batman Returns” and even the Flint Mobile from “The Flinstones”. On top of that, extravagant cars donated by celebrities fill the exhibit. Regardless of your taste in movies there is something at this car museum for everyone. If you’re intrigued by things dark and taboo or enjoy being scared, then stop by the Ripley’s Believe It or Not Museum. This museum’s artifacts collected from all corners of the world are guaranteed to leave you shocked and confused. Be sure not to miss the Grimpsy and Streaper Casket Company exhibit. Apparently, there was a mysterious disappearance of the owner and townspeople. Do you remember “Cooter” from The Dukes of Hazard? Ben Jones, the actor who played the character keeps the legacy of TV land alive with his museum, “Cooter’s Place”. Inside, fans can check out costumes, props and all sorts of memorabilia from the series. On top of that, there is an exciting go cart track where you can drive prototypes of The General Lee. This is an ideal Museum for the whole family to enjoy. You had better not cut out on this next museum because it is surely one of a kind. It’s called the Salt and Pepper Shaker Museum. Upon entry, you are surrounded in shelves filled with over 20,000 salt and pepper shakers from around the world. In fact, the museum doesn’t feel like a museum at all. It feels more like a designated space for a sacred collection. When looking around you can feel how much care and dedication has gone into the display. The true beauty is not in a particular set, but in the chaos of them together. When you are vacationing near Gatlinburg, check out these museums. It’s wacky fun for the whole family and may end up being the most memorable part of your trip. Born and raised in the Smoky Mountain region, Bob Foster became a passionate expert on this part of the country even as a child. Years later Bob turned that childhood passion and expertise into a profession when Bob became a general manager for the family business that specializes in rentals of Gatlinburg cabins and Pigeon Forge cabins, both towns being in the heart of the Smokies. The company motto is "Creating guests for life by offering an experience of a lifetime" and it is with that thought in mind that Bob started a blog fully dedicated to information about the Smokies, which can be found at blog.patriotgetaways.com.

"don’t forget about the mean 1967 Mustang" That Mustang was my third car. What a powerhouse that was! It was easy to spin-out! I wish that I still had it .. but I got married and had a baby and had to settle down. Not a hardship .. but it was sure different. Thank you for writing this intel. Gatlinburg sounds like a great place to vacation.
