Three ways to relax in Gatlinburg
By Bob Foster of American Patriot Getaways
Gatlinburg boasts activities to please the whole family and fill every hour of your vacation. Daily entertainment from outdoor adventures to theme park attractions awaits, but what if you want to take a vacation from your vacation and relax for the day? Here are a few ways to have fun and enjoy the Smokies at a slower pace. Focus on the food! Eating should be an enjoyable experience, and Gatlinburg offers a bevy of restaurants perfect for breakfast, lunch, and dinner (and snacks in between!) to please any palate. To start your day, rise and shine to a delicious breakfast—even fix it yourself if you were staying in one of numerous and beautiful Gatliburg cabins. But who wants to cook on vacation? Let someone else do all the work; this is your day to rest and relax. If it’s pancakes you crave, you’re in luck, because Gatlinburg boasts dozens of pancake houses that serve mouth-watering breakfasts. Just follow your nose to sample one of the local favorite eateries, including The Pancake Pantry, Atrium Pancakes, Log Cabin Pancake House, and so many more! If your appetite surpasses the regular breakfast fare and you seek a more filling option, don’t miss the all-you-can-eat breakfast bar at Bennett’s Pit Bar-B-Que. Also, the local tea and coffee shops want to help you start (and refuel) your day. For lunch and dinner dining, the various Gatlinburg restaurants offer everything from down-home cooking to fine dining, whether the menu calls for a family gathering or social rendezvous. Shop ‘til before you drop! Shopping is cathartic, and remember--you’re relaxing. No matter what souvenir, item you forgot to pack, or handcrafted artwork you seek, one of Gatlinburg’s specialty shops has it. Take your time and peruse the malls and shops, such as the Mountain Mall or the Smokey Mountain Outfitters. Furniture, jewelry, homemade candy and fudge, fishing gear, collectibles and of course, a grocery store, all can be found within walking distance from the all the local highlights. Sneak away! Walking along the Gatlinburg strip offers not only breathtaking views of the nearby mountains, but opportunities to bask in the local entertainment. Several one-of-a-kind museums, like the Hollywood Wax Museum, give you a chance to escape for a bit and perhaps learn something new, like, did you know eastern Tennessee even had a wax museum? Now you do! And no vacation is complete without a day of pampering, and the Spa at Pine Mountain is staffed with local masters in the art of relaxation. They offer full services to sooth away any remaining stresses. To end the day, catch a movie, live music show, or theatre event in Gatlinburg or nearby Pigeon Forge. Depending on the time of year, take in some of the best seasonal events and shows not found anywhere else in the world! Remember to not book every day of your getaway. Take time to stop and smell the fried food and enjoy the local culture that only Gatlinburg can offer. Born and raised in the Smoky Mountain region, Bob Foster became a passionate expert on this part of the country even as a child. Years later Bob turned that childhood passion and expertise into a profession when Bob became a general manager for the family business that specializes in rentals of Gatlinburg cabins and Pigeon Forge cabins, both towns being in the heart of the Smokies. The company motto is "Creating guests for life by offering an experience of a lifetime" and it is with that thought in mind that Bob started a blog fully dedicated to information about the Smokies, which can be found at blog.patriotgetaways.com.
